Mission

The ultimate goal of ThinkFirst Iowa is to prevent traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries among youth in Iowa. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the largest percentage of these injuries occurs to people between the ages of 15 and 24. Our program focuses on this high risk population - youth 18 and under. If our program can save just one life or prevent a life-altering injury, we have accomplished our goal. The cost of prevention versus the cost of traumatic injury is staggering - $7.80 per child for educational programming versus roughly $4 million in costs per person for the lifetime care associated with a severe injury.
