Community Health

The Center for Advocacy and Outreach at Blank Children's Hospital has a vision to improve the well-being of all children, and we are committed to improve the lives of children and families beyond the walls of our hospital. Since health behaviors learned as children often become lifelong habits, it is imperative to teach our kids how to grow into healthy adults.

Kohl's All Kids Healthy

The Kohl's All Kids Healthy (AKH) program works with schools and other organizations to assess students' risk for childhood obesity. Program components include an online Pediatric Health Risk Assessment and CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) curriculum.

Pediatric Health Risk Assessment

The Pediatric HRA is an online tool used to gather information on children's health behaviors. Your child's personal HRA report will provide immediate feedback which will highlight positive health habits and summarize any potential health risks. This report will include tips which can be used to support your child's healthy development.

Homeless Shelter Information

The Center for Advocacy and Outreach has partnered with Des Moines Area Homeless Shelters to collect data regarding the health and well-being of school-aged children experiencing homelessness. We have used the Pediatric Health Risk Assessment to gather this information.
